Matthew 13:44-46
– Here we find two parables of Jesus teaching the value of The kingdom.
– He also teaches how somebody Finds The Kingdom.
– You can find The Kingdom in one of two ways, you’re either searching for it or you stumble upon it.
– In both instances Jesus taught that the cost for you to have The kingdom is the same; It’s everything.
EX. These two men went and SOLD all they had in exchange for this treasure.
– Notice he teaches not only what they sacrificed but what their attitude was sacrificing. “in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field”
– If you’re going to joyfully sell all you have for one thing, first you’re crazy, second you must be in love!
- If you want to have The Kingdom you’ve got to be in love with The Kingdom. you’ve got to love the kingdom more than anything else.
- Maybe you’re one whose been around and you’re just not “feeling it anymore”.
- You can say: “I’m not as excited as I used to be” Or: “I don’t sacrifice as much as I used to”
- If that’s happening somethings wrong.
- Q. What Happened?
- A. It’s simple, you’ve fallen out of love with The kingdom and in love with something else.
- Love is not a feeling, it’s a commitment. Ex. Marriage.
- You need to fall back in love or better said you need to return and recommit yourself back to The Kingdom.
- Q. How do you do that?
-
-
-
-
Rev 2:1-7
- Jesus addresses disciples who have persevered, have endured and have not grown weary.
- Their problem: They have forsaken the love they had at first.
- The Kingdom just wasn’t #1 in their lives anymore.
- The solution:
- Consider how high you’ve fallen.
- Repent and do the things you did at first.
- If you don’t repent Jesus will take the lamp stand(The Kingdom) from you.
- You see committing to the kingdom simply as an obligation won’t allow you to keep it, you’ve got to put all your heart into it.
- Recommitting to the Kingdom is simple:
- You must consider whatever you’ve begun to treasure in your heart.
- You must give it all up all over again.
- Q. What stops people from having the kingdom?
- A. An unwillingness to give up personal treasures.
- And so Jesus encourages the church:
- V.7 “Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.”
- Q. What greater treasure could there be?
-
-
-
- God wants a people who will love Him and His Kingdom forever!
- People who will lay down everything to have it!
- What does it look like when a group of people all treasure The Kingdom?
Acts 2:42-47
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
- We must make this our personal responsibility: that we will become a people just like this who will love God forever!
